Whether you are a hardcore WSU Intramural participant, or just like to play pick up games with your friends, you may have noticed the diminishing conditions of the Valley and Grimes road play fields. WSU Recreation has developed a plan for both organized and informal recreational activities. University Recreation aims to offer the finest conditions for all students who wish to partake in activities on these fields.
This project is focusing in on bettering the field surface with an artificial surface, increasing the drainage, lighting and overall access to the fields. The better quality and accessibility will better year-round play without closure for weather or maintenance. The aesthetics will be vastly improved with better lighting, new fences and an overall improved playing surface. In terms of the campaign 'Be Crimson, Go Green', the artificial surface replacing natural grass would eliminate nearly 15,000,000 gallons of water between the two fields combined.
The overall beauty of this improvement is that the project would be funded without the creation of a new student fee. Annual S&A fees will be allocated to fund this 10.6 million dollar estimated project. Look forward to a survey to gauge student interest here in the coming weeks. This survey will identify how many students are in favor of this project and the numbers of students who truly support this advancement in WSU recreational and athletic opportunities.
